I just read about Molly and the TV.

Most likely her eyes are attracted by the motion.

Our eyes are built to see motion first. The TV is constantly moving.

I find I have the same problem in a sports bar: even with the sound off, my eyes get dragged to the screen because of the motion. It makes it difficult to hold a conversation with someone.

*curses the fact that every bar around here is a sportsbar - even teh Irish pub*

It's instinct. The only answer is to remove the motion from her field of view, i.e. turn the TV off.
