I am so conflicted... =)P by shadowsystems 2006-09-16 16:59:45
I just went to my local ThinkGeek store (yes, there's a brick & mortar ThinkGeek store in town!) and they're having a "sidewalk sale".
(10% off anything on these racks? Can I just buy the racks? hehehe)

I found a "Used, but tested & found good" Microsoft Natural Pro keyboard for *$15*!
Bring it home, plug it in, and realize that they didn't quite "test" it enough.

All the keys BUT ONE work properly, and even the multimedia/special keys work without drivers!
But that *one key* kinda kills the usefullness...

Here's a hint:
It's more important than a vowel and there's NO WAY you can get by without using it.
(Sighs)
If you press down anywhere BUT *dead center* of the thing, it won't even consider itself as having been pushed.
Unless you press AND HOLD IT DOWN, it won't accept itself as having been pressed for long enough to qualify as a keystroke.
(Bangs head on the desktop)

Ok, so I box it back up and go BACK to the store (like I ever really NEED an excuse to go there? hehehe) and show the guy on duty what's wrong.
Now, I know it's used, and that's fine, but it doesn't work properly, so it's defective.
He accepts this, and promptly uses his keys to yank off the space bar, tweak with the spring-bar-thingy, and then plugs it into his terminal to verify that it works properly.
He offers to either give me back my money or let me keep the keyboard, knowing that it's used & will probably devlope the same problem again at a later date (but now knowing how to fix it myself).

I take the money, go back out to the racks, and hunt through all the goodies to find something else to spend my money on.
As I am hunting, he puts the keyboard back on the racks & someone else picks it up a few minutes later.

Should I have said anything to them, or just let them find out on their own that the "used" sticker on the box REALLY means *used*?
