whenever I see something I consider to be fundamental being dismissed out of hand by someone...in that fashion.

I'm a strong believer in the right to live (not-necessarily in the abortion-debate sense of the word in this case...I mean, the right for a living human being to go on living) and all things antecedent to that--liberty, personal property, the pursuit of happiness, and the right of self-defense, which is a necessity to secure the other rights.

I proceed from simple facts at this point. Guns exist. Lots of guns exist. Criminals get guns through extralegal means. Criminals will use guns if they choose to in their activities. If they target myself or any other law-abiding citizen, the right of self-defense is the first, and likely only, opposition the criminal will face, unless there's a cop 10 feet away at that very moment. The removal of the right to use a tool in self-defense that is at the same time being used to deprive you of your rights is a victory for no one but subhuman leeches, thugs and criminals who see, not people, but a veritable buffet table, theirs for the pillaging.

Cavalier attitudes never have sat well with me, and sometimes I do go off rather vociferously whenever I encounter them. Restraint and I are still nodding acquaintances <g>.
