The event was in 1995.
There's also this little analysis by a jewish democrat who I know:
QUOTE BEGINS:
He certainly doesn't claim any association now, but there's more than a little credibile evidence: there's his own admissions, and his contemporaneous statements when he was "affiliated" with the NoI.
His association with and support for Farrakhan go rather a lot beyond the eighteen months he's admitted to, both in time and in depth.
It began no later than 1990, when he was writing columns -- plural -- defending Farrakahn in the Minnesota Daily, and continued through 1997 when he acted as one of Farrakhan's spokesman in front of the MIAR board, and then through 1998 when he admitted his association with the NOI during in his first run for the state house, when he was running as Keith Ellison-Muhammed.
Quoting Insight, via Powerline [emphasis mine':
"Ellison-Muhammad, who says his affiliation with the Nation of Islam doesn't mean he isn't running to represent all the people in his district, feels the critical issues on the table include criminal justice, education, and economic development....
"Anticipating possible criticism for his NOI affiliation, Ellison-Muhammad says he is aware that not everyone appreciates what the Nation does and feels there is a propaganda war being launched against its leader, Minister Louis Farrakhan...."
You could ask Keith X. Ellison/Keith Hakim/Keith Ellison Muhammed/Keith Ellison, if you'd like, and watch him duck and weave. He's never faced his history honestly.
Not that that's his only noxious association -- he's pretty clearly in CAIR's pockets
QUOTE ENDS
So, we have articles in 1990, on stage at a meeting in 1995, a spokesman on their behalf in 1997 and labelling them misunderstood in 1998... That's a lot more recent than 20 years ago. Closer to 10.
So, as long as David Duke hasn't been a KKK member in 10 years, he's good to go? If Pol Pot were alive today and had kept his nose clean in the last 10 years, would he be ok too? Or would you consider a 8 year affiliation with a clearly racist organization (I'd say bordering on terroristic) to be a pretty good indicator uf his unfitness for office? |
