Again, this is a purely hypothetical.

What I'm trying to understand is, what's with the fascination/obsession with guns? How come Americans seem to place so much of their identity into gun ownership? How come much of the rationale behind that seems to be "because we can"?

I mean, I'm pretty proud of being Belgian, and I'm pretty proud of being a Gentenaar (inhabitant of the city of Gent), but I can't think of anything physical that'd make me more/less proud of where I come from by posessing it (with the possible exception of my passport).
