...for a long time now. Something that I as a European don't understand when it comes to Americans and their guns. Oftentimes when asked "Why?" the answer'll be "Because it's in the constitution, it's my right to carry arms..." And that seems to be pretty much the whole argument, because it's in the constitution.

Ok, so what if... the constitution got amended, the part about the right to bear arms was taken out? I'm not talking about practicalities or about how much the "gun lobby" would oppose said amendment or even the likelihood of this happening. Purely hypothetically speaking, would American gun owners be as happy to get rid of their guns "because it's in the constitution" as they would buy guns now "because it's in the constitution"?
