In Canada.
I'll get my notice in the mail, will see advertisements in the papers, hear advertisements on radio and tv, and see signs on public property.
I'll go down to my polling station with my ID at hand, go to the table for my polling station, tell the person at the table who I am. They'll flip through their book until they find my name, hand me a ballot, and mark me as having voted.
I'll take my paper ballot behind the cardboard screen set up on a table/desk, open the ballot, put a check or 'X' beside the person I'm voting for (in the big circle beside their name), fold up the ballot, and take it to the desk where the ballot box is located.
They'll take my ballot, tear off the confirmation strip, hand me back the ballot, and watch me drop it in the box.
And... that's it. No nonsense with computers, paper trails (or not), levers, chads, etc., etc., etc.
There's a lot to be said for low-tech. |
