Islamo-Fascist doesn't mean anything. :-p
But Bush has (or his writers have) made downright stupid errors in that regard in the past, starting as early as the days after 9/11 when he said we were going to go on a "crusade" to get the people who had done this. That's a f4ing idiotic word to use, and somebody should have known better.
We cannot paint this as a war against Islam, and people are absolutely right to fear the consequences of doing so. Ironically, in the context of our current discussion, doing so would also push the U.S. that much further into the Christian theocracy camp, but nevermind that for a moment.
Extremists of a religion cannot be destroyed or weeded out from the outside. I'm sorry, but they just can't. They've never been able to be. Religious ideologies don't work that way. They can be marginalized from within, and they can be denied support by the people who would empower them, but they can't just be eliminated, poof, they're gone. That's been the most serious problem with our "war on terror" from the beginning.
As for Islam in America, it should be "protected" exactly as much as every other religion, no more and no less. How do you measure "Muslim inroads"? The number of Muslims in office? I should hope not. The number of laws based on Muslim theology? I'm not aware of any, but boy do we have our hands full keeping Christian theology out of the lawbooks.
When I'm shown an actual wrongdoing (politically) on the part of Muslims in this country, I'll be quite happy to confront it, but I really don't see where your immediate and seemingly elevated concern is coming from. Their physical attacks on us will not alter our political structure. |
