You could also see it as going from beeing afraid to being dead compared to being unafraid to being dead. Either way, you have no fear once the baloon has gone up, since you are dead. I myself keep my eyes open, but I don't spread the "things to be afraid of this week" around. That's what the terrorists want, so I don't do it.
