Of course people scream when they themselves (could) get hurt. The question should be: how many christians scream bloody murder about abortion clinic bombings, or discrimination against homosexuals, or Phelps's picketing, etc.?
As regards the self-defending: if your group was attacked, vilified, hated, discriminated against, wouldn't your first priority, too, be self-defence?
