I was just looking at a list of books that have been banned, and why. To Kill a Mockingbird PROMOTES racism! Someone missed the point of it entirely, and then there's this:

1984, George Orwell

Challenged in the Jackson County, FL (1981) because Orwell's novel is "pro-communist and contained explicit sexual matter." Source: 2004 Banned Books Resource Guide by Robert P. Doyle.
