For pete's sake... by zeitnot2006-09-14 04:25:38
  the transformation of words by stoft 2006-09-14 06:32:37
Invented brand/product names have a tendency to become a part of the vernacular:
- Sony Walkman -> walkman
- TeVa flip flops -> teva's

Whereas brand/product names taken from the vernacular have a tendency to disappear from the same vernacular. Unfortunately I can't think of any examples in English right now (Swedish e.g. Lätt & Lagom).

In other words, we can always hope that the word pimp actually disappears from the vernacular as it gains popularity as a brand.
