Friend's been trying on her own for several weeks to fix a MacOS 10.1 box that was set to autologin to her username, but after boot only ever came to a blank blue screen. (Yes ladies and gentlemen, MacOS did blue screens in 10.0 and 10.1, but not of the same variety as M$ 'doze does.)
So anyway, after some troubleshooting, boot into single user mode (CLI only) and dump her preferences. Viola! 100% operational once more. 1.25 hrs including all the miscellaneous troubleshooting; and 20 minutes-ish to fix the actual problem.
