I have 5 running right now. Sheesh. It isn't THAT hard to rack up points. I got my first million with an FX55, two 2800+, an 866mhz and a 1.5ghz box. I bought the two 2800+ boxes just for this project. Around $250 each, and I needed the experience building boxes and installing debian. So I not only learned a lot, I generated some points!
They are out of service now - the only boxes I run now are 5 servers at work, and it looks like 2 of them might come out of service soon. I'm just running them as long as I can.
Leave the points standings as they are. Not everyone will be able to make the top 10 - and not everyone SHOULD. If you don't have the resources, why would you expect to make the top ten?
This sort of thinking is what has wrecked our schools. They lowered the bar over and over again until nobody is left behind. Of course this also removes all motivation for the good students to excel - why bother if there is no reward? |
