| I signed up in 1996 while that same Arkansan was in office. Granted, I never did like anything he did while he held the office of the Presidency, really didn't appreciate how he managed to permanently tarnish that office and thusly pass all the garbage on down to the next person, but he was still my Commander-in-Chief nonetheless. If he ordered my unit to go overseas and engage in a war to protect American interests, we'd do it. If he ordered my unit to go rebuild civilian homes and hospitals, restore electricity and water, all while under heavy fire from resistance forces, we'd do it. (Yes, DR, my unit was a combat engineering unit.)
Why? It's what we agreed to do when we signed our name on that dotted line and took that oath. We may never agree with how our Commander-in-Chief carries himself or what he does. S4, I'm not entirely in agreement with how our current President runs things, but I'd rather have him in office than the phony Irishman. Had Bush truly been on his game, he would argued the fact Saddam was a threat to human rights to his own countrymen (and potentially to everyone else) and had the resources to build WMDs, not to mention all the times he violated UN sanctions. I think the war probably at that point would have more unilateral support, but that's IMHO. |
