them for having been in the SS. Either they were not allowed in in the first place, or they were deported when their records were discovered. Germany (or whatever their home countries were) may never have punished them, but that does not mean that they aren't being punished for having (possibly) followed orders that, by your own argument, they were obliged to follow without protest.
To extrapolate this to the current situation, we may end up with the case that current US soldiers are never punished by the US for following orders in Iraq, but they may run into trouble (deportations, visa refusal, etc.) if they ever try to leave the country. |
