/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin/
X11:/usr/games

so when you have a executable in your local folder (it does not have to be a shellscript) and it's not in the searchpath you have to put the ./ in front to tell the system that it should take the one in the local folder and doesn't need to look in one folder of the PATH variable.
