I use it for the servers at work...I've never had a software issue with them that I didn't cause. And the hardware's not been bad either. apt-get is your best friend IMHO. I didn't like Ubuntu as a server distro when I tried it, but I have heard they've put more work into making a server install that didn't waste space on media players, desktop environment, etc., so it may be worth a shot.
