Ignoring the fact that these four men were using their phones to continue their criminal activities, my anthropology prof told us a tale last night about how the rebellion got started in the dictatorial country she was doing her research in. It was one of those countries (an archipelago off Sri Lanka, I think she said) where the penal system is really bad, and their dictator regularly 'disappeared' people. Someone smuggled a cell phone into the prison, and when a seventeen-year-old boy was brutally 'disappeared' they phoned the boy's family. That was how the riots started, both in the jail and in the streets (and my prof ended up with a completely different paper from what she had initially intended).
