Because it has no count parameter it will just repeat until the end of the file, 1 byte at a time. So you don't really need to alter the restore command.

I've done a tiny bit of research though, and found no evidence indicating Grub actually uses the sectors between MBR and hda1. But no real evidence to the contrary either, so I guess it won't hurt to try.
