I can sell you a FreeBSD Jail Virtual Private Server starting at $30/mo CAD. You get root and can run whatever MTA in there how you want... For the switches, I've had good luck with the inexpensive Linksys SRW2024, it's a 24 port GigE switch with 2 mini-GBICs, about $500. 1U Rackmount. The caveat: webmanagable only. The telnet/rs232 interfaces are only useful for setting the base IP address and port media mode.
