I could just dd more than 512, you mean? You see, I don't really understand dd. I just took those commands from several places on the web. Will a bigger dd not overlap hda1, maybe? How much can I safely copy?

And it was my understanding that Partition Image does copy the data exactly. It doesn't know about files, it copies sectors.
