With a few assumptions B5 mass is about 2.267 961 85 metric tons

Assumptions based on;
a) The series is filmed in the USA
b) The political structure of Earth Force is based on American politics.
c) Station length Measurements given in Imperial units (assuming length is NOT nautical miles)
e) Series states that station was built by earth force.

Under this information I am assuming that 2.5 million tons mass refers to a US Short ton and not a UK Long ton or any of the other forms of ton (Tonne, Tonelada, Metric Ton, or Tonneau)

Next Question Explain how a layman can identify which side of a battle an exploding ship belongs to.

Hint: Answer is explained in season 5 by a layman, to a layman. :-)
