power it off in disgust about half hour ago
powered it on a couple minutes ago with the acronis trueimage cd in (drive imaging software, great util, that) and it works again...
which implies it might be heat related, which poses a problem as there isn't a spot in the front where I could put a fan. There's one in back but I doubt that will help much.

hmm... mebbe I could pry a couple 5.25" bays off and put a fan there.

well, if anything else, i'll see if the random locks up are OS related or not as I reloaded 2k pro on there. (made a image of it before I blasted it to load xp to try it's bridging feature that didn't work too well with the particular wireless card that's in there)
