Because they didn't want their precious princess to have to suffer the consequences of her actions. My children have been taught since age 2 that they will suffer the natural consequences of their own actions. Thusly they have long since learned not to commit hazardous acts without at least asking first and finding out what the consequences might be. These parents have obviously not taught their child this basic law of life.. They also, given the description of the barriers, were not paying attention. That is criminal negligence!
