of an adverse reaction-- and no, you wouldn't know that you're going to have that reaction until you have the shots. As with most vaccines, there is probably even a tiny fraction of a chance of death. I think they should have given the girl the shots. This way, the girl learns that there are no consequences to bad behavior, and that her comfort is more important than the lives of a family of living creatures. The other way would have taught her an important lesson.
