Can you have a character both doing single play and play another as group?

I have seen a comparision of Guild Wars with World of Warcraft. Is there another comparision to say something like NeverWinter Nights or Baulders Gate that you know of?

Know of any other free online play CORPGS/MMORPGS that are similar in how game play is?
