OOOOOH shiny. by unjust2006-11-19 12:55:59
I wonder how strong the magnetic field is. by shminux2006-08-08 08:59:20
    Here's an estimate: by Tars_Tarkas 2006-08-08 10:24:33
based on dimly remembered physics lessons and arcane scrolls of knowledge...

1 Tesla euqals about 400 kPa pressure (says wikipedia). Assume the bed is about 1x2 meters and weighs, including a person lying on it, 100 kg. (Yeah, ok so that person is a bit on the thin side, but for a first estimate it should be ok.)

In earth's gravity 100kg amounts to 980 newton. So that's 980 N/m-2, which is 980Pa.

400.000 / 980 =~ 408. So that makes it 1/408 = 0.00245 Tesla (2.45 millitelsa) to keep the bed and Kate Moss afloat :)

Tars, hoping to pass the knowledge(physics) roll.
