Don't you have some insurance that covers at least part of it? Where I live most people have an insurance that covers accidental damage you're responsible for (don't know the English term). Minors are usually covered by their parents' insurance. I'm not sure how far your not wanting to involve parents goes, but my advice would be to inquire if they have this kind of insurance and whether you're covered too.
