| Out of necessity, last week I got myself |

an external 250GB hard disk. I would have opted for a USB/Firewire
combo but these are horribly more expensive...
But 111,- EUR for a genuine Seagate drive is not too bad...
(I didn't really have the money, but I absolutely needed some disk
space.)
And when I came home I had an ad flyer in my postbox in which among
a number of other things there was a very special offer for a 199,- EUR
computer. 200GB drive as well and a DVD-burner and 512MB memory,
nice, living room compatible desktop case, and complete with Linspire
preinstalled. The catch: fairly poor CPU by current standards, with less
than 1GHz.
(Apparently this machine had been sold together with a TV/radio
receiver card as a "mediacenter" in the winter 2004 season. For
the current offer they ripped the receiver card and replaced it with
a network card to turn the machine into an "office" box...)
It still has got a lot of the features left in: USB2 (my first box
which got this), Firewire, SCART video out, surround sound with
optical and copper SPDIF...
Because of the USB2 it is much faster to mount an SMB share from my
DVB box and copy the data through my network than connecting the
external hard disk directly to the DVB box...
