He installs some P2P program called "Blubster" (I think that's it) and in doing so, it corrupts his HP DeskJet printer drivers.
Once the HP DJ drivers get bjorked, the OTHER programs that rely on them bjork his OLEAUT32.DLL file, and then Windows stops booting for some D4'd reason.
I originally tried to just do a SFC (System File Check) to have Windows replace it with an uncorrupted copy, but it didn't work.
Tried a manual over-install of a downloaded good copy directly from MS, and at first it didn't work. But then I rebooted, did it from a command prompt, and rebooted again. THAT worked.
So now I've got a copy "hidden" on his system, and if he bjorks it AGAIN, I'm gonna just try replacing the bad copy with the good. If it works, I MAY add it to his freakin autoexec.bat file as a line that auto-copies the known-good version over the version in his Windows/System directory, each and every time he reboots. =)P |
