I can honestly say that having extra time (twice the allowed amount) to take my tests was extremely beneficial. I have trouble visualizing things, which made 3rd semester Calculus, Differential Equatitions, and Linear Algebra VERY difficult. I could DO the work, but it just takes me longer.
I have yet to see an instance in the real world where completing a problem involving a vector field in a certain amount of time was critical. In fact, I don't think I've EVER had to do ANY vector field analysis outside of school.
Would you consider it "coddling" to have a test for a blind student printed in braille? Because your opinions are pretty consistent with somebody who is unfamiliar with learning disabilities.
Perhaps your child will be deslexic (like my brother), then you can see firsthand what it's like to have a child that is capable of reading at the same or higher level as the rest of the students, but takes twice as long because the words are all jumbled up. |
