and give the grades you deserve.. are you sure that is the same as being a "hardarse"? Children learn what they are taught... Do we want a world of "hardarses"? I suspect you would agree you dont want to be cruel or indifferent either.. just fair and honest. I suspect you do want to be supportive - to allow children to learn from their mistakes - Not ignoring the mistakes but allowing and encouraging them to be made - recognizing them as opportunities to learn (rather than be punished for example). Its a challenge I face all the time with my two children (ages 4 and 23 mos atm). When they do something wrong how do I punish them without being unduly cruel (because I am frustrated, tired and quickly becoming more and more irritable). How do I emphasize that the behaviour is wrong without instilling in them a fear of trying at all for fear of being wrong? Its a challenge that every parent faces.
