Joyce really didn't bother to try for accuracy. When it comes down to it mindless fanboys exist for just about everything. Some people are simply so convinced they are right they are willing to overlook anything that has changed in the last 40 years to make their point.

There are other texts that denounce Pascal and they tend to claim FORTRAN is the best and most modern language. Although they never mention C at all some C fanboys use to tests as basis for straw-man attacks on Pascal.

I'm not sure this was Joyce's intent, but his piece was about as kind to C as some C fanatics are to Pascal (or Perl, or whatever).

Personally I think someone should just use whatever they want. After all, they will either dig themselves into a hole or get the job done. In the end there isn't a "Holy Grail" language that solves everyone's problems. If there was there wouldn't be a billion languages to code in.
