Driving through Southern Illinois with my dad on my way to college (9/81), we drove through a late summer storm. We were looking for a place to pull off, becase the rain was getting hard to see through, when there was a lightning strike on the road about a quarter-mile in front of us. BIG strike. Looked like the Hammer of G-d. Almost a minute later, we hit a pothole and realized that we had just driven over the smoking crater left by that bolt. We pulled to a stop under the next overpass to wait out the storm...
