I am considering buying a digital camera for 'Hobbyist' photos. I'll be taking it on trips and to family gatherings, etc. I enjoy taking scenery and nature pictures, so a high optical zoom is a must. I also want one with a battery pack, rather than AA or AAA batteries. It would also be nice if it used a SD card, so I can reuse my PDA memory cards. I am looking at a budget of ~$200-$300 USD.
I have (so far) settled on the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1K. It has 10X optical zoom, Li-Ion battery, and a SD slot. Although listed at $349.99, I have found it as low as $300 new.
Does anyone have any suggestions, horror stories about Panasonic cameras, or ideas on how I can get a better deal? Thanks.
