When I was offered a job at Canada Post many years ago there were several checks they ran I think. I don't doubt more people will leave if they are subjected to those problem people. At some point they will be fired to keep workplace peice. But it is a hard thing to do when you are talking a government job. Specifically if a union is involved as they can make quite the fuss.

I hope your tests turn out fine.

Yes I can see them saying something maybe but if your computer has a screen lock or you are standing within reach of it. It is reasonable to think nobody would try to access information. For all anyone knows you could have sensitive client data that other employees aren't to see. That is a violation of client confidentiality for personel who aren't authorized to deal with the client to look at the information.
