I've been close to Bears numerous times, around Wolves, Coyotes, and Bobcat/Lynx with no issue(the latter tend to be shy here, the canines very as to how bold they will be, and the bears are quite bold). The Cougar was another issue. It was angry I was in its territory. If it had been hungry it would of been more determined. But I can say it is not fun to be chased by an angry, large wild animal while unarmed.
