I helped an older neighbor remove a Bradford pear tree that had fallen on his house in a storm. I didn't mind that he invited me to his church, but he didn't let it drop despite me being clearly Not interested. He just kept pushing.

I helped him get the last of the mess into managable piles, the work being mostly done before he broached the subject, but instead of having a new friend, and he had seemed like a nice enough guy up until then, I left a guy who I have no interest in meeting again. What makes people act like that?
