Part of the spirit of community is people helping people. Every little bit helps, and where one person might not be able to take care of something themeselves in a timely manner 5 or 10 can make the work go quickly (and provide much needed tools/smarts) and can move on to another project and help someone out. If you're safe where you are I say the best thing is to help out. In my books, family comes first; I'd see who in my family (or friends' family) needs help, and what, then see who around me needs help.
