agree with you. But the law seems to have a different point of view - one that I can also appreciate.

That's not all that unusual:-\

I fully agree with your point about sentencing. And perhaps the law's point about a murder conviction is that without it there won't be a criminal record attached. Whether that is just or not is a somewhat different discussion.
