DVR Question by tonza2006-07-26 11:58:57
  the $30 solution by psychoi3oy 2006-07-26 12:45:33
is to slap a TV tuner card in your computer. That's what I did. It came with software that points to a web TV guide thing (initial setup involves puting in your zip code and picking your cable provider). Clicking the 'record' link on the webpage downloads a small file that the DVR software opens and sets up for recording. Variable recording quality options, and you can hand set times/channels if you want.

Well, it was really a $160 solution for me cause I got a 250gb hdd and SATA controller along with it, but you may or may not need it. TV out on your video card (which most have) lets you watch stuff on TV, and my card came with an IR sensor and remote, not that I've bothered with either yet (watching TV on the computer).

Yes. I realize you specifically said you didn't want to build your own DVR, and .... hold on I'm trying to think of something.... oh. This isn't building, it's just upgrading :-p
