informal poll: do kids call you by your last name? by SnappingTurtle2006-07-26 09:35:29
  Miss [nick name] by Lady-Luna 2006-07-26 10:01:33
but that's just in the US. The reason for using the nick name is that it's MUCH easier than my first name, plus that's the name I go by while in the US and amongst close friends and family ove here.

Over here we even address our teacher by first or nick names. The Mr. / Mrs. / whatever isn't done over here. Heck, we don't even change our names when we get married, and my and my brothers last names aren't exactly the same (mine is [fathers-first-name]dottir and theirs is [fathers-first-name]son, me being his daughter and them being his sons).

The closest thing you get to a title over here is Grandpa/Grandma [first name] or Auntie/Uncle [first name], but that's just to explan relations and so you know which Grandpa or Grandma is being talked about.
