informal poll: do kids call you by your last name? by SnappingTurtle2006-07-26 09:35:29
  Mr. (First_name) by boink 2006-07-26 09:58:27
Our corner of the neighborhood has come to the consensus that title-first_name is acceptable. Title acknowledging status/respect for elder, and first_name to avoid confusing the heck out of the 3-5 year olds. Although we all still answer to "mom" & "dad" from any of the kids. (And it's a step up from being refered to as "John's dad")

Try explaining to a strong willed 3 year old why the adults have lots of names (First_name, Mr. Last_name, Dad, spouse_pet_name, etc.) but kids only have one.
