Can a book use a chair as a chair? No; the book wouldn't know whether it is sitting on a chair or not.

However, a person can see the book sitting on the chair and know that the chair is a chair.

A cat or a dog, however, would be unlikely to know that the chair is a chair; to them, it is just another part of their territory. A goldfish might see the book sitting upon the chair, but would not know that there is a book nor that there is a chair. This does not cause what we see as a chair to cease to exist, but its "chairness" exists only in our perception of that "chairness".
