I think a chair is any object that I or someone else can sit comfortably on. Some objects are dedicated chairs and some are chairs of opportunity. If the object is not comfortable, it's not a chair, even if it was designed to be a chair. If the object breaks and cannot provide a conforatble seat, it's no longer a chair.
