| Hey, shminux, got a question for ya. |

There's that whole quantum physicis bit about God playing dice with the universe. I believe that the original reference was Einstein condemning quantum physics by saying that "God does not play dice with the universe."
So my question is, do physicists really think like this? To say that God does play dice with the universe implies two things. First would be a belief in God, and second would be a belief that God is subject to what we perceive as natural science.
My impression is that science, as a discipline, is mainly agnostic and that God, being the creator of the universe, exists outside of it, and would therefore not be subject to its physical laws, even those of quantum physics.
So what's the deal with this thing about God playing dice with the universe? It never made sense to me. I have a rudimentary understanding of how this came from the discovery of electrons being probability waves, but my question isn't about the nature of that discovery, but of the the nature of how and why this concept of God playing dice with the universe is sustained and how it achieved such widespread popularity when science is supposed to be agnostic.
I'm not trying to be down on science, I'm just down on this concept, and I'm curious about the hows and whys of it. |

I understand that. And that's a fair statement to | by hadji | 2006-07-12 23:04:36 |

Cool. Pantheists are clearly the smart ones. ;-) ( (n/t) | by Illiad | 2006-07-12 23:13:53 |
