I did once design an embeded P100 based system that had 4 UARTs with full DMA to/from system memory.
You could run all 4 of them up at 115.2kbps full duplex and and keep them busy the whole time. The CPU would sit there 98-99% idle. You don't want to know what it did to a windows PC that was trying to keep up with just one of the ports.

You also don't want to know the sort of hacks I needed to do around the southbridge in order to get that many DMA channels to work.
