PLEASE tell me you have a resistor in that circuit.

If you want to use AndyA's method of just reading the input by placing output, that is connecting pins 2 and 3.

Signal Ground is pin 5 on a 9-pin connector, pin 7 on a 25-pin connector.

Assuming 9 pins, you want 6, 8, 1, or 9 (if you are using my circuit) as your input.

Ihave no idea what TIOCM_CAR is. Carrier detect?
