Or paying cash? (IMO, the most convenient way to pay: both parties can be confident, that the goods are paied for. Imediately.) Or using a credit/direct debit card? All three methods are instantaneous, and cannot get lost in the mail (cash can get stolen, as well as a credit card, but PINs limit the danger with credit cards). The only time I used a cheque to buy something, was when I bought Mandrake 8.0 Standard Edition from France to Germany.
